Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a student at Boston College? Well, let me take you on a journey through a typical day in the life of a BC student. From attending classes to participating in service placements, there’s never a dull moment on campus.

Starting the Day with PULSE Class
The day begins with Brendan giving me a ride to my first class of the day, PULSE. PULSE is a year-long course that fulfills both philosophy and theology core requirements. In this class, we dive into thought-provoking discussions ranging from philosophy to social justice. It’s a classic lecture-style class that challenges us to think critically and broaden our perspectives.
Embracing Service and Giving Back
After the morning class, I head to Nativity Prep, a Jesuit middle school in Jamaica Plain, Boston, for my PULSE service placement. Spending 12 hours a week at this placement allows me to engage with the community and make a positive impact. Whether it’s tutoring students or playing basketball with them, it’s a rewarding experience that reminds me of the importance of service.
Fueling up at Tully’s Cafe
With a break in my schedule, I head to Tully’s Cafe, one of my favorite places on campus to grab a delicious Mediterranean-style bowl. Tully’s offers a variety of flavorful options that never disappoint. It’s not just a meal; it’s an experience that leaves me satisfied and ready to tackle the rest of the day.
Student Admission Program (SAP) and Fun Traditions
In the afternoon, I attend the SAP office for our weekly office hours. The SAP program is student-run and handles all admissions-related activities on campus. It’s an opportunity to contribute to the university’s recruitment efforts and showcase the best of BC to prospective students.
After our office hours, Maddy and I engage in a friendly competition – solving the New York Times daily mini crossword. It’s a fun tradition we enjoy, challenging ourselves to solve the puzzles as quickly as possible. It’s a great way to take a break from the daily hustle and have some fun.
BC is known for its exciting traditions, such as Showdown, Red Bandana Game, and Marathon Monday. Showdown is a student talent competition that brings the BC community together. The Red Bandana Game is a tribute to Welles Crowther, a BC alumnus and hero of 9/11. And Marathon Monday is a special day where classes are canceled, and a concert is held on campus. Last year, we had the privilege of watching Jason Derulo perform. These traditions add to the vibrant spirit of BC and create lasting memories.
PULSE Service Placement Continues
After a fulfilling day of classes and activities, it’s time to head back to Nativity Prep for more time with the students. We engage in tutoring, play basketball, and enjoy dinner together. It’s a time to connect and build relationships with the students, reminding us of the importance of community and support.
Evening Shenanigans and Wallyball Intramurals
As the night approaches, I gather with friends to grab dinner on campus. It’s not always about the food, but the conversations and connections made over a meal. After dinner, I attend a BCTV meeting, where we discuss upcoming projects and collaborations. To end the night on a high note, we participate in a Wallyball intramural game at the Plex. The friendly competition brings us together and keeps us active.
Wrapping Up the Day
As the clock strikes midnight, it’s time to wind down and prepare for the next day. It’s been an eventful day, filled with classes, service, fun traditions, and memorable moments. Tomorrow holds new adventures, including my first tour of the semester and more time spent with friends.
