Day Two: Hood River Fruit Loop
Our journey begins with a visit to the Hood River Fruit Loop, a scenic route that takes us through an array of picturesque farms and orchards. Our first stop is Hood River U-Pick, a family farm known for its seasonal organic produce.
Raspberry Picking at Hood River U-Pick
As we enter the farm, the sweet aroma of ripe raspberries fills the air. We venture into the raspberry patch and start plucking the juicy red fruit. It’s a delightful experience, made even better by the company of adorable animals that call the farm home.
Peaches and Purple Pears at Poole Family Farms
Leaving the raspberry patch behind, we continue our journey to Poole Family Farms. Here, we find rows of peach trees, heavy with plump and juicy peaches. Baby struggles a bit with picking, but with some effort, we manage to gather a basketful of this delicious fruit. And let’s not forget the purple pears that add a unique touch to our collection!
Hood River Lavender: A Fragrant Oasis
Our next stop is Hood River Lavender, a farm that not only grows acres of fragrant lavender but also produces essential oil from the plant through steam distillation. The soothing scent of lavender envelops us as we explore the farm.
Crafting a Lavender Bundle
We gather sprigs of lavender to create our own dry bundle. The bees buzzing nearby don’t bother us as we gently snip the lavender stems. Meanwhile, Baby happily blows bubbles, oblivious to the beauty around us.
Exploring the Lavender Gift Shop
Before leaving, we make a quick visit to the farm’s gift shop. The air is filled with the delightful aroma of lavender products, from candles to soaps. Our senses are in heaven, and even Baby seems to appreciate the fragrant atmosphere.
Full Sail Brewing Company: A Beer Lover’s Paradise
Our exploration of Hood River wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the renowned Full Sail Brewing Company. Here, we indulge in a hearty meal paired with their exquisite craft beers.
A Tasty Feast
We savor a mouthwatering spread of pasta, salad, and the famous beer cheese soup, all prepared to perfection. And for seafood lovers, the salmon fish and chips are a must-try.
Discovering the Art of Brewing
After our meal, we embark on a brewery tour. Full Sail Brewing Company holds the distinction of being the first successful craft brewery to bottle beer in the Pacific Northwest. We get a glimpse of the brewing process, from the ingredients to the impressive machinery that produces 80 kegs of beer every hour.
A Journey Through History at Columbia Gorge Discovery Center
As we make our way to The Dalles, we stop by the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center. This captivating museum showcases the rich cultural and natural history of the Columbia River Gorge.
Scavenger Hunt Adventures
We join a scavenger hunt, eagerly searching for hidden treasures throughout the museum. From a walking bear to the colossal Columbian mammoth, each exhibit captivates us with its fascinating stories.
