Make Your Coffee Table Shine with a Stunning Christmas Centerpiece

Everyone is buzzing with excitement about Christmas decorations this year, and I’m no exception! I’ve mapped out my decorating plans and double-checked everything. However, I’ve noticed that the coffee table often gets overlooked when it comes to holiday decor. If you struggle with your Christmas coffee table decor, don’t worry! I’ve got some fantastic tips and ideas to help you create a beautiful centerpiece that will make your coffee table the star of the show.

Welcome to a Pinterest Challenge!

Before we dive into coffee table decorating, let’s talk about the challenge that ignited my inspiration! Every month, my friend Cindy from County Road 407 issues a “mission impossible” challenge to recreate a pin from Pinterest. I’m always up for the challenge, and this time was no different!

We bloggers then set out to assemble a look inspired by the original pin. But before I reveal the pin that served as my inspiration, let’s take a moment to appreciate the beautiful rendition created by my dear friend Paula at Virginia Sweet Pea. Her vintage coke crate coffee table decor is absolutely charming!

The Inspiration Photo

Our muse for this month’s challenge was Jennifer at The Grace House Interiors. Jennifer’s Christmas home tour showcased rustic farmhouse touches, including a gorgeous vintage crate vignette. The weathered texture of the “Chip and Jo” Magnolia crate, coupled with the carved Christmas trees and mixed berries, exuded simplicity and elegance.

Keeping Jennifer’s main elements in mind, I set out to create a similar centerpiece using items I already owned (or crafted). I then supplemented it with a few other home decor accents to complete the coffee table look.

Elevate Your Coffee Table Decor

For my coffee table, I decided to go all out with a trio of items, making it a bit busier than usual. I guess I just couldn’t contain my Christmas spirit this year. My overarching theme for the coffee table was a rustic/woodland atmosphere, so I incorporated many natural elements into my display. Now, let’s delve into each of these elements and the decorating ideas behind them.

1. Display a collection with a glass cloche

Last month, I shared a tutorial on how to make mini wooden houses. If you have a collection of items or one special accent to highlight, a glass cloche is the perfect choice. Cloche domes invite guests to take a closer look, creating a scene within a scene. Plus, the way the light reflects off the glass adds a beautiful balance to the darker wooden accents.

2. Create a focal point with a crate or tray

In line with this month’s challenge, I wanted to incorporate a crate decorated for Christmas into my vignette. In a previous post, I discussed how to style coffee table tray decor with complementary items. The wooden box I used was a gift from my late mother-in-law to my husband. I adore its grooves, texture, and the simple latch in front.

Tip: For added height and stability, partially fill the box or crate with packing paper, newspaper, or raffia. After filling the box halfway, I arranged a bit of real cedar garland together with my wooden trees. Mixing real and faux greenery adds life to your coffee table decor.

3. Add figurines and reading material

To make the room feel more welcoming and cozy, consider adding a small decorative sculpture to your coffee table. In my case, a reindeer sculpture was the perfect finishing touch to my woodland scene. The red ornament and books also added a pop of color to the display. And of course, a coffee table wouldn’t be complete without some literature to enjoy.

Underpinning the whole coffee table display was a repurposed Christmas table runner. It helped break up the wooden textures and complemented the neutral sofas, bringing the whole piece in unison with the living room.
